• So, the men paid 60.00 at first - 20.00 per
  person
• But they were given 3.00 back the total cost
  was then 57.00 so each man paid 19.00
• The bag boy kept 2.00 for himself
• 57.00 for the room 2.00 for the bag boy
  59.00 where did the other dollar go?!?!

Addendum

• This slide was not included when presented
• The key behind this problem is to explain it in
  such a way that it is believed. The mistake in
  this problem is that the room cost 55.00 plus
  3.00 for the men plus 2.00 for the bag boy is
  60.00. Another way to look at it is to start
  from the initial 60.00 then subtract the 3.00
  given to the men and subtract the 2.00 for the
  bag boy which equals the new 55.00 price. It
  gets the students thinking in a logical
  sequential kind of way and reinforces the idea
  that for a math problem, you want to make sure
  that what you do makes sense.
