Supplies

• Gloves
• Gauze
• Hydrogen Peroxide and water
• Antibiotic
• Band-Aids, sterile gauze, or non adherent pads
• Tape

Step 1

• Check the scene and put on gloves

Step 2

• Stop bleeding by applying pressure with gauze
• Clean wound with water or hydrogen peroxide

Step 3

• Make sure the wound is clean
• Apply an antibiotic

• Apply a band-aid
• Or apply a non adherent pad to the area if the
  area is larger

Step 5

• Apply tape to the bandage
• This supports holding it to the site

• Remove gloves safely and carefully

Small cuts or scrapes
Larger wounds
Re-check the wound daily
Refer to Physician
Ouch!
Send to emergency room
Re-apply dressing daily

• Protection from diseases such as
• HIV
• Hepatitis
• Syphilis
• Malaria
• Babesiosis
• Brucellosis

Putting it together
Apply band-aid or non adherent pad
Check the scene and put on gloves
Apply tape to bandage
Apply gauze and rinse with water
Remove gloves safely
Make sure the wound is clean and apply an
antibiotic

• Reduces risk of infection
• Reduces the chance of spreading blood borne
  pathogens
• Ensures injured patients safety

• Use a clean dressing
• Apply pressure on the wound if you were not
  previously
• Try elevating the wound
