Title: Self heating of samples

1
Self heating of samples
Topic Production of self-heating and
conversion of heat Author Dennis
Cravens Knowledge sought role of particle size,
use of metallic additives, Pd black held in
proton conductors, energy extraction and
conversion, elevated temperatures
Other work Thermal work involving electrochemical
codeposited Pd are being done in a 5mW Seebeck.

Summary of activities Pd black with inclusions
of various other metals within proton conductors
have shown that they can generate heat when
placed in high pressure deuterium and held at
elevated temperatures (200C). With proper
insulation these can self heat and remain at
temperatures higher than their environment.
Attempts at engineering breakeven are now being
made using Peltier conversion.

Minimum size
D D -gt He 24Mev
Pd lattice bonds on the order of 2ev
Requires gt 10E7 atoms in lattice Or it destroys
the lattice environment
Requires particle/grain sizes on the order of 30
microns I am now screening samples for 200 to
400 Mesh (75 to 35 microns)

Materials Pd (with Rh, rare earth, Th and
U) reduced from solution Ceramic Y stabilized
Zirconium oxide Temperatures 200 to 250 C

situ Insulation aerogel packed within
stainless steel dewar with lid and vacuumed.
