Objectives

• The students will be able to identify community
  helpers.
• The students will be able to describes the
  workers job.
• The students will realize how important each job
  is in the community.

Materials Needed

• Fighting Fires by Seymour Simon- book about the
  job of a firefighter.
• Police officer as a guest speaker
• Paper
• Crayons
• Puppet
• Scissors
• Glue

Student Activities

• The students will use puppets that they make to
  tell their parents what they have learned about
  community workers.
• The students will draw a community helper and
  explain what their job is.
• The students will take a field trip to a fire
  station, police station, or post office.

Continued Activities

• A community helper will come into the classroom
  and answer the students questions.
• The librarian will come in the classroom and
  explain her job to the students.

Firefighters

• Firefighters put out fires and help people when
  they are in car accidents.

Police Officer

• Police Officers help people that are in trouble
  and keep us safe.

Postal Worker

• Postal workers sort and deliver mail to us.

Teacher

• Teachers help students learn how to read and
  write.

• The President keeps the United States safe for
  everyone.

• Garbage collectors pick up our trash so that we
  can keep the world clean.
