IMPLEMENTATION OF MID DAY MEAL SCHEME IN DELHI

INTRODUCTION
  • Supply of cooked meals started in July 2003 and
    upto Dec. 2004, phasewise all primary schools
    were covered under the scheme.
  • DOE was declared as Nodal Department in September
    2005 by MHRD.
  • Supply of cooked meals upto upper primary classes
    have been started in first phase by NDMC and DCB.
  • In second phase from the year 2009-10 DOE will
    also extend the scheme upto upper primary classes.

IMPLEMENTATION
  • Scheme is implemented individually by DOE,
    MCD,NDMC and DCB through Service Providers/NGOs.
  • DOE being Nodal Department coordinates with
    MCD,NDMC and DCB in matters of allocation and
    release of budget and also for liaison with
    Ministry of HRD.

NUMBER OF DAYS MID DAY MEALS SUPPLIED
  • Note-
  • Number of working days in school run by DOE and
    NDMC is 190 because students do not attend school
    on last working day of each month.
  • Number of working days in school run by DCB is 64
    as cooked mid day meal programme has been
    implemented by DCB w.e.f 1.1.09.

LIFTING OF FOOD GRAINS (PRIMARY)Upto 31/12/08
  • Note-
  • Difference in lifting is due to the fact that due
    ration can not be lifted in the same month as MDM
    card are available in the next month. And food
    grains is lifted on the basis of actual
    consumption.

  • Note-
  • The facilities of cooked meal in upper primary
    schools under jurdication of Directorate of
    Education Govt. of NCT of Delhi shall be extended
    during the year 2009-10.
  • NDMC has extended the scheme upto upper primary
    by w.e.f. November 2008

INNOVATIVE PRACTICE
  • Kitchen Gardens in school is being encouraged.
  • Use of Double Fortified Salt for cooking food.
  • Semi Automated Kitchens to save nutritious value
    of the
  • food, and to minimize time taken for cooking
    etc..
  • 4. Mothers involvement in checking the quantity
    and quality of food being served to children.
    They would be motivated to visit kitchens also to
    oversee cooking process and hygienic standards
    being maintained by the Service Provider.

    follows
  • 1.The Delhi School of Economics
  • The impact of school meals on Attendance,
    Learning and Health Outcomes in Delhi
  • 2.Krishna Foundation
  • Nutrient and Micronutrient contents in the Mid
    Day Meals provided to the children and
    fortification with Vitamins A,B,C D
  • Sri Ram Institute For Industrial Research has
    been entrusted for sampling and testing of MDM.
