8Mortality Insurance
- Equine mortality insurance protects you against
financial loss due to the untimely death of your
animal. - You may insure your horse (or one you have
leased) - Full Mortality
- Named Perils
9Full Mortality Insurance
- Known as "all risk" coverage.
- It covers death due to any cause not specifically
excluded by the policy. - Animals covered by a full mortality policy must
meet certain age and health criteria in order to
be eligible for coverage
10Named Perils Mortality Insurance
- Covers your horse for those causes of loss
specifically listed in the coverage form. - Much more narrow in scope than a full mortality
policy, named perils - Only covers accidental death.
- Death caused by a medical problem such as colic
is not covered. - Named perils is generally only used when covering
- over age animals,
- a large number of animals on a single policy,
- when the cost of full mortality is not
economically viable.
11Accident, Sickness or Disease (ASD) Insurance
- Mortality policy can be extended to cover the
stallion in the event that he becomes totally and
permanently infertile, impotent or incapable of
serving mares as a result of an accident, illness
or disease. - Accident, Sickness or Disease that is sustained
or contracted during the period of insurance. - This extension does not cover against the
stallion being congenitally infertile.
12Stallion Loss of Income Insurance
- Stallion Loss of Income - insure against a loss
of income resulting from their stallion being
unable to fulfill its stud duties in a particular
breeding season. - Can include or exclude loss due to death of the
stallion. - The sum insured is based upon the income expected
during the season, taking into consideration the
number of mares booked, the stallion's fee and
the fertility - The claim amount is dependent upon income lost,
taking into account income derived. - This insurance can run in conjunction with a
mortality insurance policy.
13Stallion First Season Congenital Infertility
Insurance
- Owners of stallions set to stand their first
season at stud can insure against their stallion
being infertile due to a congenital abnormality
of its semen, or a congenital inability to breed. - Most commonly covers against the stallion
achieving less than a 60 fertility rate, from a
minimum number of 20 mares.
