• Many humidifier manufacturers list output
  capacity in gallons per day (GPD), or the amount
  of moisture they can deliver in a 24-hour period
  while the furnace is running (plenum temp
  120F-140F).
• But how do you know which ones really work and if
  a home is getting enough moisture?

• Typically, the GPD claim is based on a homes
  heating equipment running 100 of the time, for
  24 hours a day at 120F.
• Since evaporative humidifiers are delivering 100
  of this humidity output only when the furnace is
  running (and no furnace runs full-time), they
  rarely deliver more than 1-gallon of humidified
  air for every FOUR gallons they use.
• In other words, for every 1 gallon humidified, 3
  gallons are being wasted down the drain!
