HPC standards

• Our standards say that registrants (health
  professionals registered with us) must
• 1. maintain a continuous, up-to-date and accurate
  record of their CPD activities
• 2. demonstrate that their CPD activities are a
  mixture of learning activities relevant to
  current or future practice
• 3. seek to ensure that their CPD has contributed
  to the quality of their practice and service
  delivery
• 4. seek to ensure that their CPD benefits the
  service user and
• 5. present a written profile containing evidence
  of their CPD upon request.

Timetable

• July 2006 registrants must begin to record and
  document CPD
• July 2008 first random audits carried out (5)
• AUGUST 2009 FIRST AUDIT OF ORTHOPTISTS (2.5)
• August 2011 2nd audit of Orthoptists (2.5)
• Random audit every 2 years on renewal of
  registration.

• Summary of practice history for past 2 years
  max 500 words
• Statement of how standards have been met max
  1500 words
• Evidence to support your statement.
• Detailed advice Continuing professional
  development and your registration HPC website.

Standard 1

• maintain a continuous, up-to-date and accurate
  record of their CPD activities
• Send simple record as part of supporting evidence
• Must show record is continuous
• Must be up to date

Standard 2

• demonstrate that their CPD activities are a
  mixture of learning activities relevant to
  current or future practice
• Cannot rely on one type only
• Criteria state 3 or more
• Can justify if limited to 2
• Should be linked to statement of practice history

Standards 3 and 4

• seek to ensure that their CPD has contributed to
  the quality of their practice and service
  delivery
• seek to ensure that their CPD benefits the
  service user
• CPD driven by quality improvement and benefits to
  service users
• May be difficult to provide evidence so should
  explain how you feel this has happened
• Decide who your service users are
• Have to seek to ensure

Assessment

• At least 1 assessor same profession
• 3 outcomes
• Meet standards and reregister
• More information needed, stay on register until
  further information received
• Not meet the standards may be given further 3
  months to meet standards
• Can you meet the standards with in 3 months?

Appeals

• Appeal process available
• 28 days notification
• Appeal agreed
• Dismissed
• CPD profile reassessed.
• If taken off register you will be notified of
  what you need to do before you can re-register.
