Phase 2 Collaboration between 2 NHS Libraries of
the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
and the University of Leicesters Clinical
Sciences Library produced a pilot generic
e-learning resource which would provide a
web-based training package for all the
information skills previously provided in the
classroom sessions.
Phase 3 Creation of tailored Primar-E Care
Learning resource which builds on previous

- Level 1 PUNs, DENs PICO
- Helps learners identify critical question from an
example consultation scenario and introduces PICO
formula and Boolean as key search tools. - Level 2 Where to look first
- Searching high quality sources such as Clinical
Evidence, NeLH Guidelines Finder, Prodigy. Uses
INFORMS Inhale software to provide training on
the live websites. - Level 3 Searching Medline via DIALOG
- Uses Flash software to prompt interactive
learning as the learner is led through a typical
search of Medline. - Level 4 What is Evidence Critical Appraisal
- Helps the learner understand what is meant by
evidence and the hierarchy of evidence and
understand why critical appraisal is important
and the principles of identifying a good piece
of research. - Assessment
- Registrars must submit a piece of work which
demonstrates competence across all 4 levels.
Outreach Librarian marks work and provides
feedback and further training if required.
