Definition Opposites
The opposite of a number is the negative of that
number.
The opposite of 1 is -1.
The opposite of -2 is (-2) or 2.
A negative sign in front of a set of parentheses
changes the sign of the value inside the
parentheses.

NOTE You can multiply/divide the same number
to/from both sides of an equation without
changing its equality.
