- Carbon supported Pt most common cathode for the
oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) - ½O2 2e- ? O2-
- Problems include the cost, availability and its
sensitivity to organics (CO poisoning) - Oxidizes above 1 V, lowering activity
- Goal to make a more robust, cheaper cathode

- Stable in acidic solution (Nafion membrane)
