Title: Session 1 Five keys to Spiritual Maturity and Freedom

1
  • Session 1 Five keys to Spiritual Maturity and
    Freedom
  • 1. Believers must seek to know God and walk in
    right relationship with Him.
  • (Eph.411-13) It was (Christ) who gave
some to be apostles, some to be prophets,

    some to be evangelists, and
some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare Gods
people for works of service, so that the body of
Christ may be built up until we all reach unity
in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of
God and become mature, attaining to the whole
measure of the fullness of Christ.
  • If we really knew God, our behavior would
change radically and instantly. Thats what
happened in Scripture. Whenever heaven opened to
reveal the glory of god, individual witnesses
were immediately and profoundly changed. I
believe that the greatest determinant of mental
and spiritual health and freedom is a true
understanding of God and a right relationship
with Him Knowing God is indispensable to
maturity and freedom (Victory over the Darkness,
    pp. 11,12)
  • How do we get to know God better and grow in our
    relationship with Him?

2
  • 2. Believers must grasp their true identity in
    Jesus Christ.
  • (John 111,12) He came to that which was His
own, but His own did not receive Him. Yet to all
who received Him, to those who believed in His
name, He gave the right to become children of
    God.
  • Why do we so often fail to live up to our noble
    identity as Gods children?
  • What is the reason for this failure? Why do we
fail to grasp our true identity in Christ?
  • Satan knows that if he can keep you from
understanding who you are in Christ, he can keep
you from experiencing the maturity and freedom
which is your inheritance as a child of God
    (Victory over the Darkness, p.10).

3
  • 3. Believers must acknowledge the reality of
Satan, his kingdom and his design to deceive and
    destroy the people of God.
  • (Eph. 611,12) Put on the full armor of God
so that you can take your stand against the
devils schemes. For our struggle is not against
flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against
the authorities, against the powers of this dark
world and against the spiritual forces of evil in
    the heavenly realms.
  • Satan is opposed to our maturity and will do
anything he can to keep us from realizing who we
are and what we have in Christ. Since we wrestle
against principalities and powers instead of
flesh and blood we must experience victory over
the dark side before we can fully mature (The
    Bondage Breaker, pp. 11,12)

4
  • 4. Believers must recognize that spiritual
    maturity s a life-time process but spiritual
freedom can be obtained in a relatively short
    time.
  • (2 Peter 13) His divine power has given us
everything we need for life and godliness through
our knowledge of Him who called us by His own
    glory and goodness.
  • Is this a new idea? Have you thought of this
    before?
  • We have failed to make a distinction between
freedom and maturity in Christian living. There
is no instant maturity its a process. But
people can be set free instantly. In fact, if you
are not free from the bondages of the world, the
flesh and the devil, you cant fully mature
    (Victory over the Darkness, p.13)

5
  • 5. Every believer must assume personal
responsibility for his/her own spiritual maturity
    and freedom.
  • (Phil.313,14 Gal.51) Forgetting what is behind
and straining toward what is ahead, I press on
toward the goal to win the prize for which God
has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
  • It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be
burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
  • In what ways do Christians sometimes try to pass
the buck of responsibility for their spiritual
    lives?
  • Ultimately every Christian is responsible for
his or her own maturity and freedom in Christ.
Nobody can make you grow. Thats your decision
and daily responsibility. Nobody can solve your
problems. Thats a process you must initiate and
follow through with. Thankfully, however, none of
us walks through the disciplines of personal
maturity and freedom alone. The indwelling Christ
is eagerly willing to walk with us each step of
the way. (Victory over the Darkness, p.12)
  • Write out your commitment to grow and mature.
  • Write our a prayer.
