Study Objectives
  • Primary
  • To determine if sickle cell patients'
    satisfaction with respect to pain reduction and
    control will improve with the initiation of a
    sickle cell database
  • Secondary
  • To compare the following measures before and
    after database initiation
  • Time to pain control
  • Number of hospital admissions
  • To assess physician utilization and satisfaction
    with the patient database

Inclusion Criteria
  • Male and female patients gt 18 years old
  • gt 5 Encounters related to Sickle Cell Painful
    Crisis between 6/1/05 and 6/30/06

  • Mean age 32 years
  • Gender 66 Male
  • Efficacy of Pain Management
  • 83 patients report pain reduced
  • 33 patients report pain controlled
  • Time to pain control gt 12 hrs
  • Acceptable time to pain control 83 No

Results are for 6 of 63 patient surveys
