2Adding a Shortcut for LYNX.Net
- Enter the LYNX.Net address in your browser
address bar, press ENTER to get the LYNX.Net
login. - Click your Favorites icon.
- Select Add to Favorites
- Click on the folder where you want to store the
shortcut. - Enter a Name and click OK.
3Adding LYNX.Net to Your Desktop
- Click the Favorites icon.
- Right-click your LYNX.Net entry.
- Select Send To.
- Click on Desktop (Create Shortcut).
- Click the shortcut to move directly to the
LYNX.Net application.
4Accessing LYNX.Net
Double-click your newly created icon. When this
screen appears, log in with the Username and
Password provided.
5Changing Your Password
The first time you log in toLYNX.Net you will be
ableto change your password.Enter the original
passwordand then create your newpassword. It
must be atleast six characters long,begin with
a letter, not include your name, and include
one non-alphacharacter. Enter it a second
time, then click Save to change it.

Click on the Attendance, Gradebook, Lesson
Planner,or System menu listings to open the

8Restoring the LYNX.Net Main Menu
9System Maintain Interop Data
Run the Update Campus option atleast once a
dayto update all of thedata from UNIX/Linux to
LYNX.Net. Choose ReloadContact once everyweek
or so.
10Link Users
This option is typically run at the first of the
year. Use it to check the automated links
between teachers IDs from the teacher master
with the appropriate user from the security
module. You will also need to use this later if
additional or replacement teachers are hired. If
thename appears in the FullName column but not
the User Name column, the user must be added in
EDPro Admin first.

- Remember to view/print your Submission Status
Report prior to collecting attendance. - When you open this step, the status of submitted
classes is automatically changed to Collected and
prevents teacher changes. - When you click Post Attendance, you are
completing all of the LYNX.Net steps necessary to
process attendance for the current collection. - You must run DA-15-24 to fully process the
transactions.

Maintain Attendance byPeriod is accessible from
the menu, icon, or link.Maintain Attendance
byStudent and by Mass Entryare accessible only
from the menu.
Maintain Attendanceis your gateway to making
additions,corrections, and deletions to
keepattendance accurate.
29Attendance Rule 1
- While you are nearly all-powerful scribes of
attendance, the one thing you cannot do is enter,
change, or delete attendance without something in
writing from a teacher. - Check the Attendance Accounting Handbook to see
your role and the role of the teacher they are
different!
30Maintain Attendance - Enter by Period
Use this option for a teacher who is absent or
unable to submit. Select the Teacher,Date, and
Period inthe dropdown boxesabove. Enter
Absencesand Tardies using thedropdown menu in
theCode column. ClickSubmit Attendance
tofinish.
31Pre-Marking and Post-Marking
- Pre-Marking a student absent is very useful to
you and to teachers. - Candidates for this process include students
assigned to ISS or suspended, whose parents call
in when they are ill, or who will be attending a
school-related event. - Pre-marked student records do not post until
teachers submit.
- Post-Marking students occurs after attendance has
been taken and will occupy much of your time as
Attendance Manager. - This refers to correcting errors, changing
Absence Codes, and marking student entries and
exits during the school day. - You are the final authority on all absence
changes as long as you have documentation for
them.
32Maintain Attendance by StudentLocating a Student
To locate a specificstudent for
attendanceentry, enter the firstfew characters
of eitherthe last name or thestudents ID
number.As you enter each character, a list
ofstudents matchingyour entry appears.Click on
the studentneeding the entry.

Select a student using Search by Student Name or
ID. Select the Date if different from the

Use the Daily Detail Report to identify unusual
attendance patterns as here. Eachone should be

- Use this option to
- Correct attendance after the fact
- Mark students absent who leave during the day
- Pre-mark students absent for known future
absences such as ISS, UIL activities, parent
phone calls, etc. Be sure to change the Date to
the future date of the absence.
38Maintain Mass Entry
Select the Activity, then click Add to create a
new entry.When an Activity is selected, a
list of all massentries previouslycreated will
be displayed. You can delete anexisting entry
bychecking it and clicking Delete. Onlyuse
this option if theevent is still in thefuture.
39Maintain Mass Entry Defining the Event
- Select the Date for this event.
- Choose All or Select for a partial day absence.
- Choose the appropriate Absence Code.
- Use the Comments field to enter a message.
- Click Overwrite to replace any other codes
previously marked in advance.
40Maintain Mass Entry Roster Changes
If students need to beremoved from the
activityroster for this event, clickthe Remove
option nextto their names. To add a student to
the roster just for this event,such as a
yearbook staffmember, use the AddStudents to
this Mass Entrybutton to select thestudent.
Click the nameand click Add. Click Next to
continue.
41Maintain Mass Entry Create Transactions
Click Submit tocomplete theprocess. Usethe
Remove option only if you need to delete a
selectedtransaction. Click Submit to create
the transactions.
42Maintain Mass Entry Submission
You can completely remove a cancelled activity
prior to the first attendanceperiod affected by
the activity. Click the checkbox and
Delete. If a student is not ableto attend on
the day ofthe event, you can change or remove
theAbsence Code usingMaintain Attendance by
Student..
43Maintain Attendance Flag
Use Attendance Maintain AttendanceFlag to
de-select any class for which you do not want
attendance submitted. Remove the check from the
checkbox next to any such classes. Click Save to
finish.This keeps these classes off

- The Primary Structure consists of a single
marking period with a number of categories that
represent subject areas. - The tasks for each subject area represent skills
in the subject areas. - The structure is to be fully designed by the
Gradebook Manager.
- Examples of skills might include the recognition
and use of letters or numbers, writing a complete
sentence, reading a book on grade level, and so
on. - Teacher grades will be reported within LYNX.Net
as progress toward each skill.

86Assigning Classes to a Structure
You cannot remove a class froma structure once
grades have beenentered without assistance from
EDP.Make these entries carefully!
87Structure Notes
- You can create multiple structures, but a single
structure reduces grading errors and parent
confusion over grading policies. - If categories are not used in a structure, either
teachers create them or all assignment grades are
grouped together and differentiated only by the
assignment weights.
- You can add or remove elements to individual
marking periods if needed. - Teachers can add their own structure elements to
what you have created monitor this carefully to
reduce the risk of calculation mistakes from
improperly constructed categories.

90Parameters Alpha
Alpha Grades are assignedby structure. They
must beset up in UNIX/Linux Table29 in order to
appear on thereport card.The Numeric
Equivalentshould be set to the middleof the
alpha grade range asshown here. This value
isused to convert alpha gradesto numbers for
averaging.The result is then comparedwith the
Grade Range valuesand reported as the
corresponding Alpha Grade.
91Parameters - Incomplete
The Incomplete Gradeusually already exists
inTable 29 in UNIX/Linuxand only requires a
confirming review onthis screen. Generally,no
other Incompletegrades are necessary.
92Parameters Excused
An Excused Grade is veryuseful for teachers who
donot require a student tocomplete an
assignment.These grades allow theteacher to
make an entry in the grade field
withoutaffecting the average. You will
typically need onesuch grade for teachers to
use when a prior marking period grade is
missing but will not be reported.LYNX.Net will
not allow thesubmission of a blank grade.

Unexcused Grades carrya numeric value and
areincluded in the averagingprocess. Using

and run GR-04-01(Build Rosters) and

theposting of grade data.
102Processing Grade Changes
When one or more teachers must make grade changes
prior to printing reportcards, select the
classes using the checkboxes.Then, click the
RejectSelected Classesbutton to change
thestatus to N for Not Submitted. Teachers can
then resubmit these classes for you to process.
103Verify Inactive Grades
You should run this step prior to each grade
collection. It will identify studentswith
grades in inactive classes that you do not want
to appear on the reportcard. Check each student
grade you want to prevent from posting then
Verify.

You can use Verify CollectedGrades multiple
times duringthe marking period to checkfor
grade changes. This isdone without requiring
teachers to submit grades.
Choose Print Verification Slips to
confirmchanged grades with teachers. Oncethat
is done, click the Select All Gradescheckbox and
then the Save SelectedTeacher Grade(s) button to
collect thesegrade changes.

- 99.99 of the time, the error is the teachers
- Check assignments to see if maximum points
include bonus points (they should not be
combined) - Check to see if an extra credit assignment point
value is too high (they are usually 1/5 to 1/3
the value of a regular assignment) - Check to see if an assignment is in the wrong
category - Check to see if Count Missing Grades as zero is
checked
- Check to see if the teacher used the Copy Grades
from Another Class option and copied the
semester/final grades as an override - Check to see if goofy weights of assignments are
contributing to the problem - Find out what the teacher is using to check grade
averages against LYNX.Net - If no grade average appears on a progress report,
check the assignment dates they may all be after
the as-of date
