Collaborative Working Case Study
10
Collaborative Working
  • Offending History
  • Client A appeared at Calderdale Magistrates Court
on 11.5.06 where he was remanded in custody
having been charged with burglary, as a result
the client was convicted of over 372 Theft From
Motor Vehicle offences which he had Taken Into
    Consideration (TIC)

11
Collaborative Working
  • The Partnership discussed Client A at the PPO
meeting prior to his release date and was
referred to the weekly Offender Management
meeting for discussion. A further case
conference was then held on 31.7.07 this involved
all partner agencies to discuss numerous issues
    such as-
  • Accommodation
  • Employment
  • Drug Treatment
  • Lifeline also kept in regular contact with Client
A whilst he was in prison, through writing
letters and arranged for the client to be
    collected from prison.

12
Intensive Interaction
  • The Partnership went to great lengths to assist
Client A both pre and post prison release by
  • 2 x pre-release prison visits by DC Leyson
    Kate
  • Kate and DC Garnett picking him up from prison
  • Kate assisted daily in diversionary activities
  • DC Leyson visited him daily as a Red Target
  • Kate took him to all his DIP appointments
  • Attended housing to sort accommodation issues
  • Kate assisting with Employment opportunities
  • Assisted with benefits / care grant paperwork

13
Collaborative Working
  • Drug Treatment
  • Kate took him to the DIP offices at Harrison
House on the day of his release to get him onto a
    Methadone script
  • Since being part of the Offender Management
Scheme, Client A attends DIP on a voluntary basis
every week where he is seen by his Care Worker
    and drug tested
  • Since he has been out of prison he has been
    providing
  • negative drug tests

14
Collaborative Working
  • Client A was released from prison on 13.8.07 to
    live at
  • Milans Hotel, 6 Carlton Place, Centre,
    Halifax.
  • This was on a temporary basis funded by the
Lifeline Project Prison aftercare, this was until
accommodation became available to him through
    Foundation Housing
  • Kate then assisted him in moving into
  • his new accommodation.

15
Employment
  • Progress2work Link-Up assisted Client A in his
employment opportunities on a daily basis by
  • Putting a CV together
  • Arranging interviews with employment agencies
  • Arranging training courses
  • Arranging references for employment

16
Collaborative Working
  • Client A started employment at a warehouse which
was found for him through a recruitment agency
  • The reports from the company during his time
there stated that they were really pleased with
him and he was a very hard working individual

17
Collaborative Working
  • The partnership made a huge effort to stop Client
    A committing crime by
  • Assisting with furnishing the flat
  • Filling in Community Care Grant forms
  • Assisting with housing amenity issues
  • Involving him in Lifeline Projects
  • Taking him to all his appointments
  • Supporting him with benefit issues
  • Assistance in accessing healthcare provisions
  • Budgeting advice

18
Collaborative Working
  • Due to Client A not re-offending we estimate that
vehicle crimes could have been reduced by as many
    as
  • 2 crimes per day 14 per wk 56 per month
    168 per annum
  • Therefore the PSA1 target would not have been met
    by the Multi Agency Partnership
  • These figures show that Offender Management has
clearly had a significant impact on PSA1 crime

19
Case Study
  • One example is a man who was a prolific burglar
who, when not in prison was committing up to six
burglaries a day. We have worked with him, along
with our partner agencies, he has undergone your
FLT course, and got good reports. He has since
gained employment and loves his new life. The
benefits to Calderdale are that there are now six
less victims of crime a day, which equates to
2190 less victims of crime a year. This has
massive financial benefits, not to mention
emotional aspect for victims of burglary. Without
your course this may well have been an entirely
    different story.
