Spray Fields
  • There is a spray field here in Tallahassee
located on Tram Rd. They have all types of
things including different holding ponds where
they hold all of the water that they may get from
other spray fields or water that they clean.

3
Recycling Water
  • Water is recycled by going to Spray Fields,
they use the water for watering grass, and
plants. They are also thinking about putting this
type of water in homes so that they can water
their plants, and grass to make it look better,
but you CANNOT drink this water.
  • While recycling is a term generally applied to
aluminum cans, glass bottles, and newspapers,
water can be recycled as well. Water recycling is
reusing treated wastewater for good purposes such
    as agriculture and landscaping.

Drinking Water
  • The water you get from your faucet can come from
two places, from lakes or rivers which is also
called surface water, or from water that comes
    from wells which is groundwater.
  • Many people who live in large cities or towns get
their water from lakes and rivers. But, most
people in the United States get their drinking
    water from groundwater.

5
Groundwater Quality
  • Just because you have a well that gives
plenty of water doesn't mean you can go ahead and
just take a drink. Because water is such an
excellent mixture it can contain lots of bad
    chemicals.
  • Since ground water moves through rocks, and
subsurface soil it has a lot of opportunity to
dissolve substances as it moves. For that reason,
ground water will often have more bad substances
    than surface water will.

6
Groundwater cont.
  • Even though the ground is an excellent
source for removing bad chemicals such as leaves,
soil, and bugs, bad chemicals and gases can still
occur in large enough portions in ground water to
    cause problems.
  • Underground water can get contaminated from
    household and industrial chemicals, and
agricultural chemicals from the surface. This
includes chemicals such as pesticides and
herbicides that many homeowners apply to their
    lawns.

7
Waste Water
  • You do not drink waste water.
  • Waste water is mainly sent to spray fields.
  • We waste water all the time by running water
until its hot in the shower, or by brushing our
teeth and letting the water run down the sink.
