7GHS in Europe CLP Regulation
- EU Regulation on Classification,
- Labelling and Packaging of substances
- and mixtures published on 31 Dec 2008
- Main characteristics
- Supply and use (not transport), all targets
(occupational, consumers, environment) - Applies general principles of GHS but adapted to
EU specifics - Hazard-based
- Phased transition period for substances and
mixtures 2010 / 2015 - Applies on top of REACH
Regulation (EC) 1272/2008
8GHS in EuropeA.I.S.E. views on CLP Regulation
- A.I.S.E. supports the global harmonisation
objective of GHS - A.I.S.E. questions the workability of certain
provisions of CLP, e.g. - Criteria for classification of mixtures for skin
and eye effects could lead to alarmist labelling
for consumers (or misrepresentation of product
properties?) - Classification notification
- A.I.S.E. is committed to work now for a future
solution - Proposal voluntary classification network to
share - data and expertise (weight of evidence)
- Objective obtaining the right classification to
get the appropriate labelling/information to
consumers - Dialogue with authorities Stakeholder workshop,
1st Sept. 2009 - Very constructive
