peacefulness. - His parents died when he was ten years old.
- Ferdinand was killed by natives in the

- John Cabot explored shores of Newfoundland, Nova

- He also found the richest fishing spot.

- He thought he found the Northwest Passage but he
didn't. He hurry back to England to report his
discover.
- One of his three sons, Sebastian accompanied him
on his trip.
- On his second voyage he disappeared and no one
ever found where he disappeared to.

- Sailed to west Indies and also sailed around
Africa. - In 1503, he explored the south eastern side of
South America. - Amerigo visited Cape Soo, Rouge, and Guambara.

- North America and South America was named after
Amerigo. - Also he was an early and skilled explorer.
- Furthermore, Amerigo helped Columbus on his
second and third voyages.

- He was the Spanish conquerer of Mexico
- He also killed many of the Aztec Indians
- He wanted to start a colony
- He never got to after he learned about the Aztecs

- He lead his troops to the Aztec Empire
- Before the battle was about to start , the Aztecs
took one look at the weapons that the Spaniards
brought with them from Spain and got frightened. - This led to them making peace with each other

- On the morning of September 25,1513 Vasco Nunez
de Balboa climbed a peak and became the first
European to look out on what would become the
Eastern shore of the Pacific Ocean. - Before that, he tried to make a living for
farming,but he was not so successful. - He explored with Rodrigo de Bastidas.

- On September 1,1513, Balboa set out on a quest to
discover a great sea. With him he brought 190
Spaniards, a pack of dogs, and 1,000 Indian
slaves. - He believed that pearls could be found on the
northern coast of Venezuela. - Balboa's tombstone is located in Havana, Cuba.

- Columbus thought he was in the Indies.
- He was sent to jail after 4th voyage.
- Named an island San Salvador in Spanish it means
Holy Saver. - When he was a child he watched ships leave the
port.

- He was a conquistador
- Looking for the fountain of youth
- He believed it would keep people from growing old
- His trip was unsuccessful but he claimed Florida
for Spain - Ponce de Leon went to Florida many times

- Worked as a delivery person for the royal court
of Spain - He eventually found the fountain of youth
- After he found it he was shot with an arrow and
died

- Cartier traveled to the St. Lawrence River with
two ships and sixty one men. - On his first voyage, he looked for a path through
America to East Asia.

- In 1534 he received a voyage from the French king
to search islands which are said to have a lot of
gold. - Jacques Cartier was born in St. Malo, France in
1491. - Jacques Cartier explored parts of Newfoundland on
May 10,1534 and also what are parts of now Canada.

- Francisco Vasquez De Coronado discovered the
southeastern part of the United States, including
the Grand Canyon. - Coronado did this between 1540-1542.

- Coronado was a Spanish Ruler. At one point he was
the governor of Galicia.

- Hernando led the first expedition across the
southeastern United States. - De Soto explored many states such as Georgia,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi,
Arkansas, and Louisiana. - Even though Hernando De Soto didn't find any
gold, he still gave Spain a claim to much of the
southeastern part of today's United States.

- Hernando De Soto had been one of Pizarro's men in
Peru. - Hernando De Soto and his men were the first to
discover the Mississippi River. - In 1539 he and several hundred Spaniards landed
near which today is Tampa Bay Florida. - Sadly, in 1542 De Soto fell ill and died.
