Title: Sunflower Computer Club Membership Meeting
1Sunflower Computer ClubMembership Meeting
- October 24, 2007
- Welcome!
2Disposing of a Computer
3So you got a new Computer, transferred all your
files and programs, tested all of the
applications and are now wondering what to do
with your old system.
4Your Choices
- Keep your old system as a backup (or give it to
your spouse as their personal system) - Give it to another family member
- Sell it (for a pittance)
- Donate it to a school or non-profit
- Destroy it
5If you give it away (or destroy it)
- You need to clean all of the personal files /
settings / addresses for your system first. - If you are donating the system try to find the
install disks for the Operating System and the
Applications so others can use it (if your not). - Make sure all manuals, cables, mice, keyboards
are included. - Deliver to the non-profit organization and get a
receipt for tax purposes.
6Cleaning Your Drives
- Deleting files and programs DOES NOT erase the
data from the drive. - In order to make sure the files have been erased
and all personal data (like passwords) have been
removed you need to use a program that will
over-write the files and other sensitive data.
