The Lake Simcoe Clean Up Fund

• 30 million over 5 years
• Established by the Government of Canada in 2007
• To provide financial and technical support for
  projects to
• reduce phosphorus inputs,
• restore cold water fishery/shorelines,
• research and monitoring for decision making

Administration of the Fund

• Environment Canada in consultation with other
  federal/provincial agencies and LSRCA.
• The Protect and Preserve the Environment of Lake
  Simcoe Committee (PROPEL) appointed by the
  Minister of the Environment, advise on priority
  actions and funding recommendations.

Fund Requirements

• 1/3 to maximum 2/3 federal funding leveraging
  other funding sources and collaborative
  partnerships.
• Landowners, environmental, agricultural
  community groups, businesses, Aboriginal
  organizations, LSRCA, Universities, provincial
  and municipal governments

The Application Process

• 1) Letter of Intent describing a proposed project
  are reviewed by Environment Canada against the
  funding priorities, eligibility requirements and
  program goals and objectives of the Fund.
• 2) Detailed project proposals undergo a technical
  review, a public review by the PROPEL Committee
  and an environmental assessment under the
  Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA).
