The Merciful

• Sympathetic attitude which then moves to
  alleviate suffering of others
• Word does not speak of mere emotional reaction,
  but involves true empathy also
• World is emotional to need, not merciful
• Assumes action (grace) in response to need

• Denotes one clean even to the point of holiness
  in thought, motive principle
• Not just a outward cleansing for sake of
  appearance before man
• Purity of heart necessary for true holiness

• Strive to prevent contention division
• Seek to promote reconciliation unity
• True peace is not achieved by the appeasement of
  evil (Jeremiah 613-15)
• Peace unity found together as we seek Gods
  will and denial of selfish desire
• Hebrews 1214

Effect of Proper Characteron Others - INFLUENCE

• Salt of world - preserving enriching
• Light of world - making visible the way of truth
  to those lost in hopelessness of sin
• If proper character is not present within us, we
  cannot be good influence on others
• Effect of our influence is not to bring glory to
  self, but bring glory to God
