Increases in Medicaid/FAMIS Dental Utilization

• In FFY 08, 38.4 of children ages 0-20 received
  dental services (compared to 36.6 in FFY 07).
  This represents a 5 increase in utilization from
  FFY 07 to FFY 08.
• In FFY 08, 49.5 of children ages 3-20 received
  dental services (compared to 45 in FFY 07).
  This represents a 10 increase in utilization
  from FFY 07 to FFY 08.

Increase in Provider Network

• From July 1, 2005 to April 30, 2009, there has
  been a 95 increase in the number of
  participating providers.
• From SFY 06 to SFY 08, there has been a 31
  increase in the number of specialty providers
  participating in the program.

Increase in Specialty Dentists

• In the first 3 quarters of SFY 09, 17 specialty
  dentists have been added to the network. This
  increase includes
• Oral Surgeons - 8
• Pedodontists - 5
• Orthodontists - 7
• Periodontists - 1
• Prosthodontists 1

Spring 2009 Provider Training Seminar

• Four (4) teleconference provider training
  sessions were conducted on April 28, 2009 and
  April 29, 2009.
• Dr. Dickinson participated in the trainings by
  thanking providers for their participation in the
  program and by highlighting the accomplishments
  of the SFC program.
• A total of 83 offices participated in the
  training sessions.
• Topics covered in the training included Adult
  Medicaid Dental Benefits, Claim Tips and On-Line
  Support for Tracking the Status of Claims,
  Provider Appeals Process, Office Reference Manual
  Updates and Electronic Funds Transfer.

Electronic Funds Transfer is Here!

• Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and electronic
  remittance statements (835 File) are now being
  implemented in Virginia.
• To enroll providers must
• Complete, sign and return the authorization form
• Include a voided check with the returned
  authorization form
• Providers must allow up to six weeks for the EFT
  process to be implemented.
• Providers participating in EFT will no longer
  receive paper remittance statements.
