  • Request for Proposals Issued in July, 2008 for
    Design and Engineering of Downtown Streetscape
    Plan to include the development of
    Construction-Ready Plans.
  • Contract for Engineering and Design Services
    awarded in August, 2008

BACKGROUND
  • Stakeholder meetings held on December 18, 2008,
    June 16, 2009 and September 15, 2009
  • 7 meetings held with DFBA Design Committee over
    the past year
  • 6 meetings held with Internal Committee which
    included representation from DFBA
  • Numerous internal progress and update meetings
    held to ensure full input and access

THE JOURNEYWEST MAIN STREET
  • Bump Outs will increase sidewalk sizes at
    intersections and will delineate parking areas.
  • In some cases, parking will be expanded due to
    design.
  • Narrowing of Main Street will slow traffic and
    provide greater pedestrian safety
  • No side streets will be narrowed, allowing for
    adequate truck and bus access.

THE JOURNEYWEST MAIN STREET
  • Bump-Outs will be built using brick pavers
    which will assist with drainage.
  • Curbs and sidewalks will be repaired and lined
    up where necessary.
  • Plan will show the installation of increased
    lighting on the West End of Main Street and will
    include trees.
  • Wrought Iron fencing will be utilized at open
    areas (along parking lots) on the interior of
    sidewalks along all of Main Street.

Main Street and Central Avenue
  • Addition of Street Trees to the entire block
    between each light post planted in 4x8 grates
  • Street Trees to be added to center of parking
    area to soften appearance
  • No loss of parking
  • Large Mast-Head banner posts to be placed on
    each end of Main Street Boulevard
  • Planters to be dominant feature on each point
  • Curbs and sidewalks to be replaced and matched
    as necessary

    could include updates to flag island
  • All landscaping and plantings (including grass
    areas) will be irrigated
  • Includes a decorative border for mowing and
    aesthetic purposes

  • Current design includes numerous concepts

  • Ribbon of Continuity is present through the
    inclusion of Wrought Iron in the design

OVERALL PLAN FEATURES
  • Upgrades in Electrical Service to provide enough
    power for future needs including Christmas Trees
    and Festivals
  • Irrigation to be provided for all plantings and
    public grassy areas
  • Design will address drainage and other
    infrastructure issues
  • No parking spots are to be lost through the plan

FUNDING
  • Currently, 376,000 has been awarded through the
    Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission through
    a Transportation Enhancement (TE) Grant (will
    address Main and Central upgrades)
  • 35,000 grant has been awarded for the Main and
    Broad Gateway from the Miami Valley Conservancy
    District
  • Will apply for another TE Grant in October, 2009
    through MVRPC
  • Will continue to search out any funds available
    for implementation of Plan

NEXT STEPS
  • Plan Board will review the Downtown Streetscape
    Plan in October, 2009
  • City Commission will review Plan in November,
    2009
