  • Yosondra M. Irby
  • Paul W. Bryant High School
  • March 6, 2004

2
Purpose
  • To put your students into active history
situations, to get them up, to move them around
    in different classroom configurations, and,
finally, to motivate them about topics you deal
    with over the school year.

3
Why are simulations important
  • Todays generation of students function better
and learn more if you, the teacher, can engage
    them actively.

4
Is history your students favorite class?
  • Too often, lessons in the traditional social
studies classroom activate only one or two
learning styles and utilize only a few of seven
    multiple intelligences students can possess.
  • Frequently, history lessons reflect an auditory
learning style and tap into a linguistic
    intelligence only.

5
Simulations bring history alive!!
  • Simulations help students respond as positively
to history class as they respond to scholars
bowl, drama class, physical education, shop, or
    home economic classes.

6
  • Simulations can emphasize the use of body
movement, or the kinesthetic learning style often
seen in skilled athletes, dancers, and actors.
  • Simulations allow students to move around and
    socialize as they learn.
