  • Inventory All Chemicals
  • Should include
  • Chemical name and formula
  • Date received (or put on inventory)
  • Approximate amount of reagent present
  • Storage location
  • Any significant hazards

  • Good housekeeping!!!!
  • Storage area neat and orderly
  • Keep inventory updated
  • Ordering chemicals
  • Should be centralized
  • Assess needs, safety issues / hazards
  • Maintain up to date MSDS file

  • Secured and locked when not in use
    (self-locking)
  • Two exits
  • Secured shelving
  • Wood preferred ( or plastic, metal)
  • with lip on edge is recommended
  • Not above eye-level
  • Only store bottles 2-3 deep
  • Proper emergency equipment

  • Not under hood unless properly designed and
    locked
  • Not in the hood
  • Not under the sink
  • Need a Designated Storage Area Separate form
    the Student Lab !!

  • Not Everything in Alphabetical Order !!!
  • Organize Chemicals By Compatible Groups !!
  • In separate rooms or different shelf
  • locations within the same room.
  • In designated storage cabinets.
