Partnership MRSEC/GSB Management Laboratory
How do you expose graduate students to a real
industrial environment, and prepare them for
future jobs in industry? The Chicago Materials
Research Center has formed a partnership with the
University of Chicago Graduate School of Business
(GSB) Management Laboratory. Graduate students
and post-docs in the physical sciences team up
with MBA students to solve problems posed by
participating industrial firms. Jonathan Frenzen,
Assoc. Prof. in the GSB and MRSEC's Industrial
Outreach Co-Coordinator, solicits corporations,
who sign up to support teams of students
coaches to work on finding innovative solutions
to their problem. These can range from market
analysis to materials processing on the factory
floor. MRSEC students, in return, obtain a
real-world opportunity to influence a company's
direction, acquire critical business skills, and
immerse themselves in corporate culture.
