  • By 500 C.E., the Gupta Empire was weakened by a
    series of ineffectual rulers.
  • Like the empires of Rome and the Han, invaders
    took advantage of the internal weaknesses of the
    Gupta.
  • The Hephthalite King Oprah successfully attacked
    the northwest borders of the Gupta Empire.
  • The Hephthalite of central Asia was part of a
    group of nomadic invaders often referred to as
    the Huna or HUN.
  • The Huna themselves were eventually conquered by
    the Sassanids.

  • Many of the invaders into the Gupta Empire
    integrated into Hindu society and became part of
    the Kshatriya caste of warriors.

    over by the Buddhists.

  • By 1000 B.C.E., there was a migration of people
    to the islands of the south Pacific POLYNESIA
    many islands
  • Migrating by canoe, these agricultural based
    people developed cultures in relative isolation
    on islands such as Fiji, Samoa, and eventually
    Hawaii.
  • In Hawaii, the people developed a caste society
    with powerful monarchs.
