independent voice and to build, empower and lead
the Indigenous Business Sector - Made up of Indigenous business owners and their

- Structure most employ 4 or less
- Industry Areas found in every Industry. Most
common trades and new knowledge industries i.e.
IT, professional services etc. - Locations - New South Wales (37), Queensland
(28) and Victoria (10). Mainly urban locations.

- Almost 2 million businesses in Australia
- The 2006 Census shows that there were more than
3000 self employed Indigenous people in
Australia.

- to close the life-expectancy gap within a
generation - to halve the mortality gap between children under
age 5 within a decade - to halve the gap in literacy and numeracy
achievement between students within a decade - to halve the gap in employment outcomes within a
decade - to at least halve the gap in attainment at Year
12 schooling (or equivalent level) by 2020 and - to provide all four year olds in remote
communities with access to a quality preschool
program within five years.
