Title: Access for All Vision

1
Access for All Vision
  • Our vision is a community in which a
disability is neutral a community where services
are integrated such that only unique and uncommon
accommodations are not readily available. We
envision a community in which the opportunities
for citizens with disability are comparable to
the opportunities for the general population.

Nominees
Paul Wolff Accessibility Advocacy Awards
7
Adaptive Driving Systems
  • Johnnie and Jeri Via have led their skilled
and creative staff at Adaptive Driving Systems in
    providing our community with accessibility
options for the past 10 years. Their
compassionate approach to life is contagious.

8
Cayucos Lioness Club
The Cayucos Lioness Club members have made coming
to the beach a breeze for wheelchair users.
Their beach chair donation provides access to the
sea and gives individuals with walking
disabilities a place to come to shore when on a
seaside stroll.
9
Central Coast Low Vision Council
For the past ten years, CCLVC has provided
advocacy and support for people with vision
impairments in our county.
10
DRC Volunteer Readers
The Disability Resource Center at Cal Poly is the
only volunteer reader program in the California
State University system. Every quarter, for the
past 20 years, the Volunteer Readers record
hundreds of books, from Child Development to
Engineering, for students with disabilities.
11
Moose Lodge 1401 1132
The Moose Lodge has opened their doors for the
past two years to Friends of SLOCO Access for
their Christmas Party. There are very few places
with meeting facilities to accommodate a large
number of individuals who use wheelchairs.
12
  • The YMCA provides services that have a broad
reach and positive impact for people with
disabilities in our community. Two examples are
the job training for individuals enrolled through
    Transitions-Mental Health Association and the
one-on-one personal training for adults with
    disabilities.

13
Robert Bove
  • Robert spearheaded the formation Seniors With
a Voice and also acted as co-advisor of People
First of SLO. He was instrumental in changing
state law prohibiting voters with disabilities
from personally and independently signing voting
materials. His passion was to enlighten the
public with the gifts that the developmentally
disabled community has to offer us.

14
Janice Holmes
Janice supports families daily at
Transitions-Mental Health Association, and was
key in the production of the documentary The
Shaken Tree. Janice has been an invaluable
collaborator in addressing the needs of the
mentally ill and a key to the success of the
Family Advocacy Program.
15
Debie McArdle
  • Debie has made great efforts to provide students
with materials in alternate formats within a
timely manner. Debie advocates for students to
have access to needed software, use of the
library, and with professors and book publishing
    companies for successful student careers.

Vicky Moraza
Vicky took on the volunteer role of Deaf Event
Coordinator two years ago for the Deaf and
Signers Club. The Club provides an important way
for ASL learners to interact with members of the
Deaf/Hard of Hearing community and to learn about
Deaf Culture, which is an important facet of ASL
as a foreign language.
17
Julie Rodewald
Julie Rodewald and her staff at the SLO County
Clerk Recorders Office have worked with Central
Coast Low Vision Council, People First and others
to ensure that electronic voting equipment is
accessible to people with disabilities. Julies
can-do spirit is infectious!
18
Jody Watty
  • As director of Special Olympics, she is
    constantly advocating for people with
disabilities. She has been director for over ten
years and has sustained an extremely high level
of advocacy work over an extended period of time.

programs which break down barriers physical,

Robert Bove
  • Robert is pictured here with Marie, one of his
favorite clients at the WTP Senior Program in
San Luis Obispo at the Santa Barbara airport in
2006. Every June for her birthday Robert took
Marie to an airport to fulfill her greatest
desire to fly. There was no greater joy for
Robert than to help others, especially those
needing extra assistance, live better lives and
experience greater joy. He was the wind beneath a
    flock of many, many wings!

21
Beth Currier
  • For the past 25 years Beth Currier has
operated Rancho de Los Animales for the
Disabled, a non-profit she founded in order to
offer a free, therapeutic ranch experience and
equestrian program to disabled persons, youth
    groups, and senior citizens.
