SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES CALL FOR SPECIAL MEASURES
ACTUAL TAP ABOARD SHIP
11
USS TARAWA June 2003
12
BACKGROUND
  • Due to the current world situation units are
    deploying with
  • in some cases, VERY short notice. TAP, although
  • important to the commander is just not a main
    priority
  • prior to departure. Although there is currently
    no Stop
  • Loss in effect commanders are choosing to take
    Short
  • Timers with them. And of course, the Marines
    are
  • motivated to extend their enlistments in order to
  • participate in the deployment.
  • These facts in turn necessitate the commanders to
    request
  • we provide the actual TAP aboard ship during
    their
  • return trip.

13
ACTION
  • Those requests have resulted in the actual TAP
    being
  • taught at sea to the last two deploying MEUs. The
    15th
  • and, the 13th respectfully. And with the early
    call for the
  • 11th MEU (currently deployed) to deploy 45 days
    earlier
  • than scheduled we will provide the service again.

This doesnt include our One Day Pre-Separation
Briefing. Specifically, ALL Topics on the DD
2648 (Pre-Separation Counseling Checklist).
Commanders are informed that this is mandatory
upon their return from deployment.
14
GROWING PAINS?
  • Due to the differences in the TAP at different
  • Installations there WAS A POTENTIAL for some
  • problems.
  • Such things as
  • The ACE (Air Command Element) includes Marines
    from Yuma, Miramar and, CamPen.
  • Attendance rosters getting to the attached
Marines parent unit/base (Miramar and Yuma).

15
WHAT MAKES IT WORK?
  • Like any evolution involving different
    installations
  • or, organizations theres only ONE true formula
  • for SUCCESS.

COMMUNICATION ! COORDINATION! COOPERATION!
16
How WE DO IT!
  • Command Support for the entire evolution MEU XO,
Adj, SgtMaj and the CO of troops on each ship.
And of course, the ships Command Master
    Chief.
  • Communication with MCAS MIRAMAR and MCAS YUMA
  • In the past when TAP was taught on ship one case
of TAP manuals were taken or acquired for use on
    ship.
  • This time CDs will be provide to each attendee.
