The Crystal Ball at Mainz

The magnetic moments of the baryon decuplet are
of great theoretical interest, but are very
difficult to access experimentally. This work
aims to access the magnetic moment of the
?(1232) from differential cross section and
polarisation observables of the reaction
p(?,??0p)12. The experiment has been
performed at the Glasgow/Mainz tagged-photon
facility 4 of the MAMI-B electron accelerator
at the Institut fuer Kernphysik in Mainz using
the new 4? CB_at_MAMI detector system.
Crystal Ball
TAPS 6 is a 510 element barium fluoride photon
spectrometer which provides calorimetry and
identification for photons and particles passing
through the forward angle hole in the CB
acceptance.
MWPC
Crystal Ball
The Crystal Ball (CB) 5 is a 672 element NaI
photon spectrometer which also provides particle
calorimetry.
PMTs
Charged particles are dentified by dE/dx method
using CB info. combined with signal from
purpose-built particle identification detector.

Charged particle tracking is enhanced by
Multi-Wire Proportional Chambers from the
decommissioned DAPHNE detector.
