Why a World Congress
  • To build up a worldwide bond
  • To reflect the lives of people with intellectual
    disabilities and their families in the whole
    world
  • To meet and discuss with speakers from many
    countries
  • To have a broad spectrum of different opinions
    and international competence, with examples of
    good practice and international participants
  • To learn about the United Nations Convention on
    the Rights of People with Disabilities and its
    importance for people with intellectual
    disabilities

  • focusing on concrete issues of the main themes
  • with simultaneous interpretation in at least two
    of the conference languages
  • Working Groups
  • twelve parallel sessions for about 100
    participants
  • with presentations and much time for discussion
  • some with simultaneous interpretation into the
    conference languages
  • Speakers Corners
  • to discuss in small groups and meet with experts

Accessible for everyone
  • Physical accessibility, sign language
    interpretation, support for people with visual
    disability
  • Easy-to-read summaries in all four Congress
    languages
  • A one-day preparation meeting for self-advocates
    on 15 June 2010.
  • Different levels of accessibility
  • AAA Highest level of accessibility, plain
    language
  • AA Medium level of accessibility, some difficult
    language
  • A Lowest level of accessibility, specialist
    language
  • A team of trained moderators for all sessions
  • Accessibility cards and a leaflet for accessible
    meetings.
