Location Background

• The Maasai village of Oronkai, in the district of
  Transmara, is home to Namunyak Maasai Welfare
  (NMW)
• NMW is a Kenyan NGO founded in June of 2004 and
  directed by Emmanuel Tasur.

The Maasai

• The Maasai are a roaming and herding people who
  live in both Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania
• The spread of European colonization cost them
  much of their traditional territory
• Livestock has been the primary economic source
  for the Maasai and continues to play an important
  role in their daily lives, diet and culture

NMWs Objectives

• NMW was founded to alleviate the harshest
  conditions of its most marginalized individuals
  through enabling local access to the following

• Health care and information
• Clean water
• Micro-credit/enterprises
• Renewable energy
• Organic farming
