18Interacting with a Blind Person
- When meeting a blind person watch for their
extended hand - Talk directly to the blind person, not the person
with them
19- Its OK to say look and see
- Remember they are blind not DEAF
20- When walking offer you arm for guidance
- Tell them of steps, stairs, or obstacles.
21- Announce when you are leaving
- Announce the presence of others
22- Place their hand on top of open car door and let
them seat themselves - Offer assistance with seat belt, if needed.
23- In a restaurant, read menu and let them choose
- Describe where things are on table
24- Blind people dont want pity, just independence
- Relax and enjoy their company. They will enrich
your life.

need encouragement.
