Why hold hearings?
  • Texas AM University System policy states
  • with the approval of the Chancellor, the
    president of each academic institutionis
    authorized to hold a public hearing at the
    institution regarding any proposed increase in
    designated tuition.

  • The composition of the student fee advisory
    committee is defined in the State Education Code.

  • Food service area expansion/remodel

Recreation Sports Student Referendum
  • Changes rec sports fee from a per semester credit
    hour fee to a flat 48 fee per full-length
    semester and 24 per summer session
  • Results in a fee reduction for full-time students
    taking 13 hours
  • Fee provides for the purchase and maintenance of
    equipment
  • Fee may also be used for future construction of
    intramural fields or rec sports facilities such
    as racquetball courts

Food Service Expansion/Remodel Referendum
  • Increases student center fee by 3 per semester
    credit hour and raises cap to 15 semester credit
    hours
  • Fee provides for the remodel of area currently
    occupied by bookstore into a larger food service
    area with more venues and seating
  • Fee may also be used for future construction
    /remodel of student center such as creation of a
    large open computer lab

  • The proposed increases in compulsory fees would
    result in an additional 8.33 per semester credit
    hour and a flat 13.15 per full-length semester
    for full-time undergraduate students taking 12
    hours.

What happens next?
  • Student voting on referendums will open December
    1 at 8 a.m. and close at 1159 p.m. on December
    3.
  • The proposed increases will be submitted to the
    Board of Regents in January for consideration at
    the March Board meeting
  • If approved, increases will take effect for the
    fall 2010 semester
