Title: Definition Systematic Theology
1DefinitionSystematic Theology
- Systematic Theology is any study that answers the
question What does the Bible teach us today?
about any given topic?
2Why Study Systematic Theology?
The Bible says Matthew 71 "Judge not, that
you be not judged Luke 637"Judge not, and you
will not be judged condemn not, and you will not
be condemned forgive, and you will be forgiven
3Why Study Systematic Theology?
- John 5
- 25"Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming,
and is now here, when the dead will hear the
voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will
live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself,
so he has granted the Son also to have life in
himself. 27And he has given him authority to
execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.
28Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming
when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice
29and come out, those who have done good to the
resurrection of life, and those who have done
evil to the resurrection of judgment.
John 724 Do not judge by appearances, but judge
with right judgment." John 1248The one who
rejects me and does not receive my words has a
judge the word that I have spoken will judge him
on the last day. Timothy 48Henceforth there is
laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which
the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me
on that Day, and not only to me but also to all
who have loved his appearing. Peter 223When he
was reviled, he did not revile in return when he
suffered, he did not threaten, but continued
entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

but all things are not expedient all things are
lawful for me, but all things edify not.
8 It is inevitable that someone studying a
systematic theology text for the first time will
have many of his or her own personal beliefs
challenged or modified, refined and enriched. It
is of utmost importance therefore that each
person beginning such a course firmly resolve in
his or her own mind to abandon as false any idea
which is found to be clearly contradicted by the
teaching of scripture. But it is also very
important for each person to resolve not to
believe any individual doctrine simply because
this textbook or some other textbook, or teacher
says that it is true, unless this book or the
instructor in a course can convince the students
from the text of scripture its self. It is
scripture alone, not a conservative evangelical
tradition or any other human authority that must
function as the normative authority for the
definition of what we should believe.
9Why should we study Systematic Theology?
- 2 Timothy 314-17
- 14But as for you, continue in what you have
learned and have firmly believed, knowing from
whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you
have been acquainted with the sacred writings,
which are able to make you wise for salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture
is breathed out by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for
training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God
may be competent, equipped for every good work.
10Why should we study Systematic Theology?
- 1 John 212-14
- 12I am writing to you, little children, because
your sins are forgiven for his names sake.13I
am writing to you, fathers, because you know
him who is from the beginning.I am writing to
you, young men, because you have overcome the
evil one.I write to you, children, because
you know the Father.14I write to you,
fathers, because you know him who is from the
beginning.I write to you, young men, because
you are strong, and the word of God abides in
you, and you have overcome the evil one.
11Why should we study Systematic Theology?
- Titus 21
- 1But as for you, teach what accords with sound
doctrine - Titus 27-8
- 7 Show yourself in all respects to be a model of
good works, and in your teaching show integrity,
dignity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be
condemned, so that an opponent may be put to
shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
