Why a New Reporting System?

• To provide more specific information to students,
  parents and teachers
• To plan individual learning lessons which address
  grade-level expectations not yet mastered

• From the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS)

What are Grade-Level Expectations?

• Skills that a child will be able to demonstrate
  by the end of the school year

How will the GPS be used?

• Teachers will have standards checklists based on
  grade level expectations
• Teachers will utilize these expectations to guide
  instruction
• These grade-level expectations are included on
  the newly designed report cards

A Shady Idea

• When you look at the standards based report card
  you will notice that certain standards will be
  shaded. If a box is shaded it means that that
  particular standard is not being assessed that
  quarter.
• Please remember that the level of mastery
• (which is given to us by the county) changes
  for some standards each quarter. For example,
  just because a student met the standards in one
  quarter does not mean that the child met the
  standard in the next quarter.
• Teachers will be using rubrics provided by the
  county to assess each standard each quarter.

Assessment Key

• 3 The student has met the standard consistently
  and independently.
• 2 The student can sometimes demonstrate
  proficiency but does not do so consistently or
  child needs assistance to complete classroom
  activities.
• 1 The student is generally unable to complete
  related activities even with guidance and
  assistance.

• 1,2,3, and 4s will only be used in academic area
• Specials and work habits are assessed using a S
  or NI
• Science and Social Studies are only assessed
  using a 2 (Progressing) or 3
• (Meets the Standard)

Score of 4

• The county/state has determined that a student
  will earn a 4 ONLY if he/she is able to
  independently and consistently demonstrate the
  learning goal AND that the student is able to go
  significantly beyond the expected level of
  performance.
• Most students will generally score 2 or 3,
  reserving 1 and 4 for students performing at
  either extreme.

Things to remember

• A standards based report card will NOT show
  traditional numerical or letter grades, it uses
  phrases
• Phrases are matched with numbers
• 1,2,3, and 4.
• 1 Does not Meet (is NOT equivalent to F)
• 2 Is in Progress (is NOT equivalent to C)
• 3 Meets Expectations (is NOT equivalent to B)
• 4 Exceeds Expectations (is NOT equivalent to A)

Promotion/Retention

• County policy states
• by the end of the fourth quarter, the student
  must meet or exceed five of the first six
  Reading/Language Arts Standards and ten of the 14
  math standards as identified on the first grade
  report card.
