Summary Hypertension in the Metabolic Syndrome
  • The metabolic syndrome predicts the development
    of both diabetes and CVD
  • Adolescents and adults (particularly those who
    are overweight or obese) should be assessed for
    metabolic syndrome
  • Lifestyle interventions have been shown to
    prevent (or delay the onset) of diabetes in
    individuals with impaired glucose tolerance

  • Conventional CV risk factors should also be
    identified and treated in persons with metabolic
