How to Maintain Your UPS?
  • Guideline for UPS maintain.
  • Take Care of Yourselves
  • Before Starting Service
  • Find Out the Problem by Debug Flow Chart
  • LED Display Explanation
  • Recover the Unit - Alignment Check

45
How to Maintain Your UPS? Take Care of Yourselves
  • Something Keep in Mind
  • High voltage exists everywhere, BE CAREFUL !
  • Battery is extremely dangerous!!!
  • Before re-plug in the INPUT LINE POWER, make sure
all power components have been checked.

46
How to Maintain Your UPS? Before Starting Service
  • Be careful of some symptoms
  • Environment and User Condition
  • Utility voltage/frequency Generator
  • Wiring
  • Load Type
  • Fault LED Indication
  • The UPS Situation Before Service

47
How to Maintain Your UPS?Before Starting Service
(Cont.)
  • What should we prepare?
  • At Least One Digital Multi Meter (DMM) 2 is
    ideal.
  • A Discharge High Power Resistor
  • Slotted and Phillips Screw Drivers
  • Service Manual
  • Good Spare PCB
  • What should we do?
  • Inspect It Carefully
  • Recording Failure Situation.
  • Disconnect UPS from Utility

How to Maintain Your UPS?Guess What Happened ?
49
How to Maintain Your UPS? Find Out the Problem
by Debug Flow Chart flow chart approach
50
Panel LED Display Explanation-1
  • Bypass Due to Over Temperature
  • Cause 1Ambient Temperature is higher than
    allowed operation temperature.
  • Strategy Reduce ambient temperature or O/P load.
  • Cause 2 Thermal detection circuit failed.
  • Strategy Refer to the thermal detection problem
    strategy. (Replace the CNTL)

51
Panel LED Display Explanation-2
  • Bypass Due to Inverter Failure
  • Cause 1 O/P short circuit. (In this situation,
no power will be transfer to O/P socket.)
  • Strategy Remove short circuit condition, turn
off the UPS then turn on again.
  • Cause 2 Inverter circuit failed.
  • Strategy Replace the PSDR.

52
Panel LED Display Explanation-3
  • Bypass Due to DC Bus Over-voltage
  • Cause 1 Some non-fatal misbehavior of UPS.
  • Strategy Turn off UPS then Turn it on.
  • Cause 2 PFC circuit fails.
  • Strategy Replace the PSDR.
  • Cause 3 DC/DC circuit fails. (In this situation,
AC INPUT LED will not light)
  • Strategy Replace the PSDR
  • Cause 3 Bus voltage feedback circuit problem.
  • Strategy Replace the PSDR

53
Panel LED Display Explanation-4
  • Fault Due to Battery Over-Voltage
  • Cause Charger circuit fail
  • Strategy 1 Replace the Charger board.
  • Strategy 2 Replace the PSDR

54
Panel LED Display Explanation-5
  • Bypass Due to Output Overload
  • Cause O/P load is larger than rated load in VA
    or in Wattage.
  • Strategy Removed or reduce load connected to O/P
socket. In line mode, the UPS will restart
automatically. In battery mode, UPS must be OFF
    in advance and ON again.

55
How to Maintain Your UPS? Recover the Unit
Alignment Check
  • Check Charger and Power Supply Function
  • Disconnect the battery wires, connect DMM to
    Bat, Bat-.
  • Connect I/P power cord to utility then disconnect
    it ASAP.
  • The fan should start to rotate?
  • DMM reading should be a little less than expected
    voltage.
  • Panel LED should light then distinguish.

56
How to Maintain Your UPS? Recover the Unit
Alignment Check (Cont.)
  • Check DC/DC and CPU function
  • Connect DMM to BUS voltage test points, connect
    I/P to utility.
  • The BUS voltage should rise to 400V slowly
  • I/P relay contact
  • The BUS voltage will drop to about 325V slowly
  • Adjust charger voltage to expected value
  • Connect battery wires

57
How to Maintain Your UPS? Recover the Unit
Alignment Check (Cont.)
  • Check DC/DC and Inverter function
  • Disconnect I/P power cord from utility
  • After the fan stop rotating, press ON button
  • The BUS voltage will rise to 400V slowly
  • Inverter relay switch to INV mode
  • Check O/P voltage as expect.
  • Turn the UPS off

58
How to Maintain Your UPS? Recover the Unit
Alignment Check (Cont.)
  • Check PFC function
  • Connect I/P power cord to utility
  • Turn the UPS on, the BUS voltage will rise to
    380V slowly.
  • O/P relay switch to inverter, inverter LED lights.

59
How to Maintain Your UPS? Recover the Unit
Alignment Check (Cont.)
  • Be sure to check the
  • All VR are adjusted to expected value as service
    manual
  • All cables and screws are firmly locked
  • All air guides and accessories are recover to the
    original position
  • Line, neutral and GND wires are correctly
    connected.
  • Do not forget turning on UPS
  • Check the environment of operation

60
How to Maintain Your UPS? (Cont.)
  • Something Keep in Mind
  • High voltage exists everywhere, BE CAREFUL !
  • Battery is extremely dangerous
  • Before re-plug in the INPUT LINE POWER, make sure
all power components have been checked.
  • FFC - Frequent Fail Components
  • DC/DC, PFC and INV power devices are most likely
    to fail.
  • PWM IC (power supply, charger, DC/DC, PFC)
