Reasons to Adopt an Ice Allocation Policy
To provide a fair and consistent approach to
allocating ice times at both the Comox Valley
Sports .
To ensure all interested community
organizationsand residents have balanced access
to ice allocations.
To operate the ice services and facilities in
anequitable, cost-effective and sustainable
manner.
To provide ice users and stakeholders
theopportunity to influence policy
implementation.
To meet current and future demandsfor both
organized and causal participants.

What is an ice allocation policy?
An ice allocation policy is a guideline for
booking facilities,it aims to provide accessible
scheduling and programming services, safe use of
the centres by residents and theregion, a basis
for allocating use by age andactivity groups,
balance between sports activitiesand
recreational use, achievement of financial
targets.

Changes to population within the CSRD.
Change in programming trends.
Increased demand on facilities.
Demographics of facility users.
Future facility and programming requirements.

Committee Representation and Responsibilities
A limited term advisory committee has been
established and is comprised of representatives
from Minor Hockey 5. Figure Skating Club 1,
Adult Rec hockey 3, Glacier Kings 1,
non-user - 1, elected official - 1 and 3 staff
members.
The committees responsibilities will be to
assist in the development of the ice allocation
policy which may include but is not limited to
the following
  • Booking priorities
  • Prime and non-prime times
  • Define the seasons
  • Develop a booking schedule including
    tournaments and special events, i.e. the impact
    that events/tournaments will have on existing ice
    users.
  • Definition of various groups

Process for Development
The committee will consider whether there is a
requirement for an appeal process
The ice allocation policy that is developed for
the 2008/09 ice season will be reviewed every
three years.
Committee minutes will be posted on the website
Final approval by Comox valley Sports Centre
Commission and RD Board.
The approved ice allocation policywill be made
available in the spring of 2008.
