GSA 8.4 Footfall Analysis using User Defined
DLFs

Footfall analysis using user defined DLFs
  • Footfall analysis using user defined DLFs
  • Footfall analysis is a dynamic response analysis.
The key to have reliable results is to have the
    correct input data
  • Footfall loads are considered as periodic loads
as shown below, a periodic load can be decomposed
into a number of harmonic components
  • The normalised magnitudes of each of the harmonic
components are called Dynamic Load Factor (DLF)
that are crucial for the accuracy of the footfall
    analysis

Footfall analysis using user defined DLFs
  • Footfall analysis using user defined DLFs
  • The DLFs given by design guides are obtained
through statistical analyses of test results,
therefore DLFs are empirical and no theoretical
    values available
  • At the moment, deferent design guides give
different DLFs (see the next three slides for the
differences). This may indicate that there may
be more accurate DLFs that represent footfall
    loads
  • If you know a better DLFs for the footfall loads,
you can define the DLFs in GSA and use it in GSA
footfall analysis, so the footfall response
analysis results may be more accurate
  • To use user defined DLFs in the analysis, you
need to make sure the reliability of the DLFs to
the footfall loads you want to consider, so that
the footfall response results are reliable
  • For experienced users, User defined DLFs can also
be used to simulate the loads of a group people
    doing synchronised activities
