14Results-based Accountability
is a different way of thinking. It organizes
the work of programs, agencies, communities,
cities, counties and states around the end
conditions we seek for those who live in our
community. It uses those end conditions as the
grounding for all of the work, including decision
making and budgeting.

17Montgomery County Vocabulary
- The FCFC Vision is captured by six Desired
Community Outcomes - Outcomes are conditions of well-being by their
nature, they are general and descriptive.
18Outcomes
- Healthy People
- Young People Succeeding
- Safe and Supportive Neighborhoods
- Positive Living for Special Populations
- Stable Families
- Economic Self-Sufficiency
19Montgomery County Vocabulary (contd.)
- Indicators help us with the How are we doing?
question. - Because outcomes are not directly measurable, we
have chosen some indicators that are. The
reasoning is that if the indicators are moving in
the desired direction from year to year, then we
are making progress toward achieving the related
outcome.
20Montgomery County Vocabulary (contd.)
- Strategies help us with the What are we doing?
question. - Strategies are the things we do to try to get
better results.

41Trend
The direction of the change when comparing the
most recent data with the data for the preceding
year. The trend is in the desired direction if
either the value or the rank (where both are
applicable) has changed in the desired direction,
or the value has remained unchanged. Note
1st in county rank is most desirable and 10th is
least desirable.
