1
Got Apathy?Its All Perception
  • Presented by Butch Oxendine
  • Executive Director, ASGA

2
Is There Apathy at Lyco?
What does apathy mean to you?
3
The Lyco Facts
  • Lycoming has 1,300 students
  • (small total enrollment)
  • You have nearly 70
  • clubs and organizations
  • (large number for your size)
  • Most colleges are THRILLED
  • with 10 involvement
  • (Lycoming has 22 involved just in leadership
  • positions!)
  • 27 are in fraternities/sororities
  • 30 are in collegiate athletics
  • 40 are in intramurals

4
Apathy Facts Questions
  • There is no college on the planet with 100
  • student involvement
  • What level of involvement
  • would mean that you
  • dont have apathy
  • at Lyco?
  • How many students are REALLY involved in
  • campus clubs and organizations, service, and
  • faith groups?

Apathy Busted
  • Were there enough qualified candidates, even if
    they ran
  • unopposed, in the last election to fill all the
    leadership positions?

    election's success. Remember, your ultimate
  • goal is to fill the openings with capable new
    leaders.
  • Are students really ashamed to attend the school,
    or are they just
  • not as pumped up with as much enthusiasm as you
    are?
  • Even though students aren't always suited up in
school colors, they still can be
  • spirited. If you saw someone walking to class
with her face painted shaking a pom
  • pom, you'd think she's psycho, right?
  • Lastly, do you even know how the so-called
    "uninvolved" students
  • spend their time?
  • Even if you were to conduct a survey, you'd
likely leave out the students who
  • contribute in little ways such as donating 1 to
    a club fund-raiser, writing a
  • poem for the literary journal, serving as a
stage-hand for a drama production, or even
  • submitting a letter to the editor of the campus
    paper.
  • These students may seem "apathetic" to you
    because they
