Halloween is the one of the oldest holidays still
celebrated today.Some people view Halloween as a
time for fun, putting on costumes,
trick-or-treating, and having theme parties.
Others view it as a time of superstitions,
ghosts, goblins and evil spirits that should be
avoided at all costs. It was originally a pagan
holiday, honoring the dead.

Jack-o-Lantern
A jack-o'-lantern is a carved pumpkin. The top is
cut off, and then the inside flesh is scooped
out a monstrous face is carved onto the outside
surface, and a candle is replaced inside. Jack
was a sinful farmer who played tricks on the
Devil. Because of this he could go neither to
hell nor heaven after his death. He started his
endless wondering for a resting place and he
lighted with his lantern.

Superstitions

• A person born on Halloween can both see and talk
  to spirits.
• Knocking on wood keeps bad luck away.
• If you see a spider on Halloween, it could be the
  spirit of a dead loved one who is watching you.
• If a candle suddenly goes out by itself on
  Halloween, as though by breath or wind, it is
  believed that a ghost has come to call. 
• A burning a candle inside a jack-o-lantern en
  keeps evil spirits and demons at bay.
