The excellence centres provide a framework for a
co-operation on equal terms in research and
teaching between scientists and students from
Germany and their partners from developing
countries to address the most important
challenges of the future. We are convinced that
this creates a sustainable consolidation of the
structures in the HEIs of the developing
countries and heightens the importance of
