- And the word of the LORD came to him "What are
you doing here, Elijah?" (1 King 199b)
This question reveals the intention of what the
person in question is doing.

4Elijahs response
- He replied, "I have been very zealous for the
LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected
your covenant, broken down your altars, and put
your prophets to death with the sword. I am the
only one left, and now they are trying to kill me
too. (1 King 910)
ME
Elijahs encounter with God reveals his honest
struggles and the heaviness of his heart. His
response reveals where his heart lies and what he
is focusing upon. himself.
GENERATION ME is a generation that is all about Me
5Gods response 1
- The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain
in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is
about to pass by." (1 King 1910a)
God knows Elijah and invites Him into His
presence.
From Me to He
6- Then a great and powerful wind tore the
mountains apart and shattered the rocks before
the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After
the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD
was not in the earthquake. 12 After the
earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in
the fire. And after the fire came a gentle
whisper. (1 King 1910b-12)
7- When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over
his face and went out and stood at the mouth of
the cave. (1 King 1913)
From Me to He
Encountering God reveals a God who is unique but
intimate

- The LORD said to him, "Go back the way you came,
and go to the Desert of Damascus.
From Me to We
God re-orients Elijahs way of life and adjust
Elijahs perspectives from fearing for his own
life to becoming a man ready to embrace his own
fears.
Encountering God gives us a new reason for living
