Motivation

• Location aware subscriber authentication and
  authorization
• Location aware Billing (e.g., determine the
  appropriate tariff and taxation)
• The intent is to only have this information sent
  to the home network for the above use.

GSMA Requirements (1)

• Transport
• RADIUS Access-Request is used to convey the
  information from NAS to Home RADIUS Server
  directly or via intermediaries.
• Information Elements
• Operator Type and Operator Name
• Country, Telephone area code, City Location type
• An unstructured string containing descriptive
• location-related information in English language
  to be used for subscriber's detailed bill

• Attribute
• Format and syntax for presenting the
  informational elements should have a minimum
  overhead. This information is used during
  authentication and authorization.

• Security
• RADIUS Intermediaries The information may be
  revealed to one or more intermediary on its way
  from the NAS to the home RADIUS server. However,
  the information is not intended to be used by
  RADIUS intermediaries.
• User Privacy GSMA recommends use of identity
  privacy where the users real identity is only
  revealed to the home network. In this case you
  would have location information but cannot
  associate it with a user
