• Academic Tracking System (ATS) and McMaster
  University Research Funding Information (MURFI)
  databases are fully integrated with STAR
• Data is synchronized on a nightly basis

• FHS Educational Contribution Planning System
  (ECPS) is being replaced by STAR
• Tracks over 600,000 teachable hours in the
  Faculty
• Uses a number of reports to extract data for
  various educational type functions

• Data Entry Templates
• A template process has been developed to
  facilitate data capture.
• Data collection issues
• Compared to data originating from ATS, MURFI and
  ECPS there are too many inconsistencies with
  faculty members CVs.
• No standard formatting around CVs we have over
  2000 unique CVs
• Data clerk method not efficient, not accurate and
  very costly

• Why Templates?
• Templates will clearly define formatting.
• Templates will clearly identify data from ATS
  /ECPS/MURFI for faculty members.
• Templates will provide a means to validate and
  correct existing data.

Template Process
STAR CV Database

• Mid 2008
• Produce a completed template for each faculty
  member.
• Distribute the templates to each department in
  coordination with training.
• Receive updated templates and load into the STAR
  database.
• Provide secondary training sessions for STAR
  department administrators

STAR CV Database

• Campus
• Other Faculties and Research Services have shown
  interest in STAR
• School of Business has contracted with Acuity and
  are currently customizing STAR for their
  Facultys use.

• U of Ts Faculty of Medicine purchased STAR in
  Summer 2006
• UWO, UBC and U of Regina Faculties of Medicine
  have all purchased STAR in 2007
• Discussions on features and upgrades are held
  regularly between all institutions.

• Phase I of the Custom CV
• Allows users to display educational contributions
  from separate data entry.
• March 2009
• Phase II of the custom CV
• Allow users to display additional information for
  research grants.

STAR CV Database

• January 2009
• CSU has installed the STAR System on site.
• CSU is performing interface testing, security
  auditing to ensure compliance with FIPPA,
  building of redundant systems for disaster
  recovery.
• Developing the STAR reporting server for in-house
  development of customized queries and reports.

Upcoming Work

• 2009
• Canadian Common CV
• This has been tested with the University of
  Toronto and the University of British Columbia.
• Final approval came from board of directors of
  Common CV (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) in November 2008.
• Develop scope for the Education Clinical
  Dossiers, and Departmental contribution
  processes.
