HLA Interface Specification is OMG Adopted
Technology

• OMG Board of Directors adopted the Facility for
  Distributed Simulation Systems 1.0 at its
  November meeting.
• This new OMG Adopted Technology encompasses the
  HLA Interface Specification 1.3.
• Service descriptions verbatim
• OMG IDL API verbatim
• We are exploring submission through OMG to ISO.

A Revision Task Force (RTF) Has Been Chartered
for the Specification

• Chartering an RTF is standard OMG procedure for
  any new specification.
• RTF is intended to deal with problems or
  inconsistencies that inhibit implementation of
  newly adopted technology.
• RTF will take comments through August 1999 and
  produce a final report in December 1999, which
  becomes OMG version 1.1.
• Aim is to incorporate all editorial corrections
  found in IEEE process (and to incorporate updated
  OMT).
• New functionality emerging in IEEE process will
  require a full technology adoption process.

HLA Enjoys Credibility in OMG Community

• DMSO is known as an active, serious member.
• Simulation Special Interest Group (SimSIG) is
  attracting serious work in related simulation
  technology.
• A full revision of the HLA spec likely to be less
  arduous than the initial adoption.

Why Was HLA Adopted Successfully?

• Note that HLA was adopted quickly.
• Adoption process began in earnest in Feb 98 9
  months.
• Adoption process was preceded by a year of
  learning procedures and people in OMG.
• Factors for HLAs success
• Both the architecture and the specification
  manifested technical excellence.
• The entire proposal was backed by implementation
  experience.
• OMG process respects the institutional investment
  of technology submitters DMSO retained right to
  decide on suggested changes.
