  • Pelvic Gridle

2
Pelvic Girdle
  • Pelvic Girdle-
  • also called the hip girdle
  • Made of two hip bones

3
Tuberosity
  • Large rounded or roughened projection

4
Notch
  • Indentation into the border of bone

5
Trochanter
  • Either of two large, rounded and elevated
processes (Greater or major and lesser or miner)
located at junction of neck and shaft of femur

6
Crest
  • Ridge like Process

7
Malleolus
  • Club-shaped Process

8
Foramen
  • Hole in a bone for transmission of blood vessels
    and nerves

9
hip socket
  • The hip socket is several bones joined together
to create a single functional structure.
  • It has to be replaced as you get older because as
you age the cartridge that holds them together
starts to wear away and needs replaced

10
Coxal bone
  • The lateral half of the large, flattened,
irregularly shaped bone of the pelvis consisting
of ilium, ischium and pubis that have fused in
the adult, and the acetabulum, which is the point
at which the three bones meet.

11
Sacrum
  • The Sacrum is a large, triangular bone at the
base of the spine and at the upper and back part
of the pelvic cavity, where it is inserted like a
wedge between the two hip bones.

12
pubic symphysis
  • The Public Symphysis is the midline cartilaginous
    joint (secondary cartilaginous) uniting the
superior rami of the left and right pubic bones.
It is located anterior to the urinary bladder and
superior to the external genitalia for females
it is above the vulva and for males it is above
    the penis

13
Acetabulum
  • is a concave surface of the pelvis. The head of
the femur meets with the pelvis at the
    acetabulum, forming the hip joint

14
Iliac Crest
  • The iliac crest is the thick curved upper border
of the ilium, the most prominent bone on the
pelvis. You can feel the iliac crest by pushing
your hands on your sides at your waist, feeling
for the bone and following it down and to the
    front.

15
False Pelvis
  • The false pelvis is the expanded portion of the
cavity situated above and in front of the pelvic
    brim

16
True pelvis
  • the lower more contracted part of the pelvic
    cavity called also true pelvic

17
Ischial spine
  • a thin pointed triangular eminence that projects
from the dorsal border of the ischium and gives
attachment to the gemellus superior on its
external surface and to the coccygeus, levator
ani, and pelvic fascia on its internal surface

18
Pelvic Brim
  • the curved top of the bones of the hip extending
from the anterosuperior iliac crest in front on
one side around and past the sacrum to the crest
on the other side. Below the brim is the pelvis.

19
Pubic Ramus
  • Pubis Ramus is a part of the pubic bone which
forms a portion of the obturator foramen

20
Obturator Foramen
  • The Oburator Foramen is the hole created by the
ischium and pubis bones of the pelvis through
    which nerves and muscles pass

21
Male and female pelvis
  • The female is a lot different than the males in
    some of the following ways
  • The anterior iliac spines are more widely
separated thus the greater prominence of the
    hips laterally
  • The superior aperture of the lesser pelvis is
larger, more nearly circular and has greater
    obliquity
  • The cavity of the pelvis is shallower and wider

22
Definitions
  • Tibia- The tibia is the larger and stronger of
the two bones in the leg below the knee in
vertebrates and connects the knee with the ankle
    bones.
  • Fibula- The fibula is a bone located on the
lateral side of the tibia, with which it is
    connected above and below
  • Femur- strongest, longest and heaviest bone.

23
The regions
  • The head of the femur goes into the Acetabulum of
the Pelvis to create the hip socket
  • constant rubbing of joints and arthritis are
    symptoms for a hip replacement

24
Knee Joint
  • Largest and most complicated joint in the entire
    body
  • Attaches the thy to the rest of the body

25
Tarsus, Metatarsus, Phalanges
  • tarsus-cluster of bones in the foot between the
tibia and fibula and the metatarsus.
  • Metatarsus- a group of five long bones in the
foot located between the tarsal bone of the hind-
and mid-food and the phalanges of the toes.
  • There are14 phalanges in each hand and foot, 2 in
each big toe and 3 in the remaining toes. They
are connected to the metacarpals in the hand and
    the metatarsals in the foot.
